March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and NCHPEG and the American Medical Association are pleased to announce four new point of care tools for managing patients at risk of hereditary colorectal cancer, and share an update on the soon-to-be released program “Colorectal Cancer:  Are Your Patients at Increased Risk?”  Read more to download the four new tools:  Family history, Risk assessment, Basics of genetic testing, and Screening and surveillance.
This educational program for primary care providers focuses on identification and management of patients at risk of hereditary colorectal cancer (CRC).  The program focuses on risk assessment, genetic testing, risk communication, screening and surveillance, and referral.  The structure of the program allows for self-directed learning as users interact with case studies to practice application of new knowledge and tools.
The program provides access to 25 point of care tools and fact sheets that will help users complete the case studies and can be brought to clinic for use in patient care. Four of these tools are being released now. Click on each tool to view.
The program will be released in April 2012 and available for CME credit through the AMA.  Providers will have the option to elect traditional CME or performance improvement (PI) CME, which engages the provider through self-assessment of current practice.  For more on PI CME, see Dr. Johansen Taber's article.  This program is funded by the Veteran’s Health Administration, Myriad Genetics, and Humana.
Stay tuned for the release of this new educational program!
