New from CDC

Each of the Regional Profiles, contains a map of the region
and a bar graph showing trends in chlamydia positivity rates
among women 15 to 24 years of age attending family planning
clinics. Each of the State Profiles on chlamydia positivity trends
contains three figures and one table.

Death rates from all cancers combined for men, women, and children
continued to decrease in the United States between 2004 and 2008.

Nine percent of adults aged 50 years and over had osteoporosis,
as defined by the World Health Organization, at either the femur
neck or lumbar spine. About one-half had low bone mass at either
site, while 48% had normal bone mass at both sites.

An estimated 13.4% of adults aged 20 and over had high total
cholesterol in 2009-2010.  The percentage with high total cholesterol
was higher in women (14.3%) than in men (12.2%) and in non-Hispanic
white women (15.4%) than in non-Hispanic white men (11.4%).

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause fetal alcohol spectrum
disorders (FASDs). Read about one woman's experience with FASDs.
Information about new tools and resources you can use is also provided.

On average, women aged 15-44 have 1.3 children as of the time
of the interview. By age 40, 85% of women had had a birth, and 76%
of men had fathered a child. In 2006-2010, 22% of first births to women
occurred within cohabiting unions, up from 12% in 2002. These measures
differed by Hispanic origin and race and other demographic characteristics.

The results of this analysis determined that an estimated
average of 21,290 HPV-associated cancers occurred among females
each year during 2004-2008, making these cancers combined more
common than ovarian cancers and nearly as common as melanoma
among females.

Among home health care patients 65 years and over, women were
more likely to be 85 years and over while men were more likely to
be married and receive home health care as post-acute care. Among
home health care patients who were 65 years and over, cancer was
more prevalent among men, and essential hypertension was more
common among women.

The majority of residents living in residential care facilities in
2010 were non-Hispanic white and female. More than one-half of
all residents were aged 85 and over.

Tell your health care providers about any complementary and
alternative practices you use. Give them a full picture of what
you do to manage your health. Do not use meditation as a
replacement for conventional care or as a reason to postpone
seeing a doctor about a medical problem.

The U.S. teen birth rate declined 9 percent from 2009 to 2010,
reaching a historic low at 34.3 births per 1,000 women aged 15-19;
the rate dropped 44 percent from 1991 through 2010.
