(HealthDay News) -- Plantar fasciitis, the most common cause of heel pain, occurs when the long, thin ligament that connects the heel to the front of the foot becomes inflamed.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons mentions these common risk factors for plantar fasciitis:
  • Having tight calf muscles that affect the ability to flex your foot and toes.
  • Being obese.
  • Having a very high arch.
  • Engaging in repetitive high-impact activities, such as running.
  • Recently increasing your activity level, or participating in a new activity.
