findAKUre Campaign


The findAKUre consortium is a collection of scientists, clinicians and patient groups working to find a cure for the rare, genetic disease alkaptonuria (AKU).




findAKUre has three main objectives



  • To support research into diagnosis and treatments for rare diseases in the UK and worldwide

  • To support patient groups to help them improve their services to patients and their families

  • To increase public awareness and knowledge and build a substantial popular movement for rare disease


The consortium is focused on proving that research into rare diseases can provide benefits with wide-reaching applications and uses.

findAKUre works to improve the outlook for patients affected by rare diseases.

The consortium strives to increase the number of diagnostics and approved effective treatments available for rare diseases by supporting the most promising scientific researchers and patient groups.

The consortium is represented by member organisations in Europe, the US and the Middle East.

The findAKUre consortium ultimately aims to raise hundreds of millions of pounds for global research, patient help and awareness.
