Public Health Grand Rounds The Public Health Grand Rounds is a monthly webcast created to foster discussion on major public health issues. Each session focuses on key challenges related to a specific health topic, and explores cutting-edge scientific evidence and potential impact of different interventions. The Grand Rounds sessions also highlight how CDC and its partners are already addressing these challenges and discuss the recommendations for future research and practice.

Preventing Venous Thromboembolism

Tuesday, January 15, at 1 p.m. - 2 p.m., EST

Colored images of human xreay with heart and lungs This session of Grand Rounds will explore Venous Thromboembolism (VTE), which consists of 2 related conditions caused by blood clots: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Estimates of the number of people in the U.S. affected by a DVT/PE each year range from 350,000-900,000, with up to 100,000 dying as a result, and 20-50% of people who experience a DVT develop long-term complications. Up to one-half of all VTEs occur during or soon after hospitalizations, and VTE is one of the most frequent serious adverse events in hospitals. More information

Thirty days from the initial session the course number will change to WD1640 and will be available for continuing education for two years after initial presentation date.
Registration is not required to watch the live webcast of Grand Rounds; however, you must register for continuing education.
