Doxycycline Shortage
Updated: 1/18/2013 According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) there is a national shortage of doxycycline because of manufacturing issues and an increased demand for the drug due to shortages of other drugs. Doxycycline is used both in prevention and treatment of malaria. There are several manufacturers in the US, some of whom are still supplying doxycycline on a limited basis. FDA is currently contacting and working with the companies and expediting all regulatory actions to allow additional product availability. Additionally, FDA is continuing to monitor the situation and will post additional information on their webpage in the near future.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will update this notice as new information becomes available.
