Chicago Collaborates with CDC to Confront CRE
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sent this bulletin at 03/06/2013 03:26 PM ESTIn Chicago, carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE) were not known to exist prior to 2007. When an increase in healthcare-associated CRE was detected in 2010, leading academic medical centers in the region partnered with CDC to develop a plan to combat CRE infections.
The partnership, through CDC’s Prevention Epicenters program, has supported research into ways to best prevent the spread of CRE in Chicago so that lessons can be applied to other regions confronting CRE. The Chicago Prevention Epicenters program is investigating proven strategies for infection control using region-wide efforts.
