Prescription opioid poisoning deaths in the United States have more than quadrupled since 1999.
U.S. drug poisoning deaths involving any opioid painkiller (e.g., oxycodone, methadone, or hydrocodone) accounted for 43% of all drug poisoning deaths and 39% of poisoning deaths in 2010.
Drug overdose is a serious problem in the United States. Help address this problem by using prescription painkillers only as directed by a health care provider and by not selling or sharing them with others.
