SAMHSA will launch "Talk. They Hear You."—a new national public service announcement (PSA) campaign that empowers parents to talk to young children about the dangers of underage drinking.
Chart-dominating singer, songwriter, and actress Demi Lovato was recognized by SAMHSA for her work as a mentor to young adults with mental health and substance use challenges.
The report indicates that young adults (age 18–25) taking part in community-based treatment programs achieve positive outcomes in behavioral and emotional health, daily life skills, employment, enrollment in school, and reduced homelessness.
A new SAMHSA report shows that the number of emergency department visits involving adverse reactions to the sleep medication zolpidem rose nearly 220 percent from 6,111 visits in 2005 to 19,487 visits in 2010.
The SAMHSA-sponsored Disaster Distress Helpline, 800-985-5990, offers counseling to those affected by the fires in California.
President Obama calls upon citizens, government agencies, organizations, health care providers, and research institutions to raise mental health awareness.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is seeking public comments on how the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) may prevent state reporting to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Deadline is June 7, 2013.
The purpose of the program is to address the behavioral health needs of people involved in, or at risk of involvement in, the criminal justice system.
