Public Health Grand Rounds

Public Health Grand Rounds The Public Health Grand Rounds is a monthly webcast created to foster discussion on major public health issues. Each session focuses on key challenges related to a specific health topic, and explores cutting-edge scientific evidence and potential impact of different interventions. The Grand Rounds sessions also highlight how CDC and its partners are already addressing these challenges and discuss the recommendations for future research and practice.

Tuesday, May 21, at 1 p.m. - 2 p.m., EDT

Frayed rope This session of CDC Public Health Grand Rounds will explore hypertension, or high blood pressure. Having high blood pressure increases the risk for cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. Nearly 800,000 people die in the United States each year from cardiovascular disease, which is 1 out of every 3 deaths.
Some health conditions, as well as lifestyle and genetic factors, can put people at a higher risk for developing high blood pressure. An estimated 67 million United States adults have hypertension; almost 36 million of them have uncontrolled hypertension.
High blood pressure is called the "silent killer" because it often has no warning signs or symptoms, and many people don't realize they have it. It is estimated that high blood pressure cost the United States $47.5 billion annually in direct medical expenses.
Please join us to learn about public health and clinical approaches to better identify, treat, and control high blood pressure.

Future Grand Rounds topics include cancer screening.
