Death rates for people with diabetes—especially due to heart disease and stroke—dropped significantly from 1997 to 2006.
More people are meeting recommended goals in the three key markers of diabetes control. The measures are A1C—which assesses blood sugar (glucose) over the previous three months—blood pressure and cholesterol.
Researchers treating human and mouse cells with compounds that modify cell nuclear material called chromatin have induced the expression of beta cell genes in pancreatic alpha cells.
