Vegetarians Live Longer

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – Vegetarians have a lower risk of death and live healthier lives according to researchers at Loma Linda University in California.
Researchers studied more than 70,000 Seventh-day Adventists, who promote vegetarianism, over an average of six years.  Over that period researchers found the hazard rate for all-cause mortality was 12 percent lower in vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians.  Results also showed vegetarianism was linked to lower deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and ischemic heart disease in men.  The study also notes the vegetarian participants generally tended to be older, more likely to be married, drink less, smoke less, exercise more, and be thinner.
