(HealthDay News) -- The workplace can heat up during the summer, especially if you have a job that requires you to work outdoors or in a hot environment.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests how to stay cool on the job:
  • Wear clothing made of breathable, natural fibers such as cotton. Make sure clothes are light in color and loose-fitting.
  • Do your heaviest work during the coolest part of the day.
  • When heat and humidity are high, take more frequent breaks. Drink water and rest in the shade when you can.
  • Drink about one cup of water every 20 minutes and don't allow yourself to become thirsty. Stay away from sugary, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.
  • Understand that protective gear may increase your risk of heat problems.
