Join SAMHSA in the mission to develop innovative communications strategies to target individuals who experience high levels of involuntary breaks ("churn") in health insurance coverage. $100,000 in prizes.
Individuals with behavioral health conditions taking psychotropic medications or using certain substances are at a higher risk for heatstroke and heat-related illnesses. These medications and substances can interfere with the body's ability to regulate heat.
According to a SAMHSA report, the percentage of pregnant women in substance abuse treatment using alcohol (with or without drug use) dropped from 46 percent to 34.8 percent over a 10-year period, whereas the percentage of admissions involving pregnant women using drugs (without co-occurring alcohol use) rose from 51.1 percent to 63.8 percent during the same period.
SAMHSA has awarded nearly $4 million in grants to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to expand and sustain the system of care approach to providing services for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances and their families.
