CDC Injury Center’s Division of Violence Prevention and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) are co-sponsoring an “Ask the Expert” Facebook Forum on Suicide Prevention this week, September 9-13, to observe National Suicide Prevention Week and World Suicide Prevention Day.

Suicide is a serious public health problem that can have lasting effects on individuals, families, and communities. In 2010, there were 38,364 suicides — an average of 105 per day. Effective prevention strategies, however, can reduce risk while encouraging resilience and social connectedness.

CDC and SAMHSA are committed to preventing suicide by using strategies based on best-available evidence. If you have questions about risk factors, prevention methods, or related issues, CDC and SAMHSA have answers. Post as a comment to a VetoViolence Facebook status update or to the Timeline.
