New Urine Test for Prostate Cancer

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – A new urine test has been developed as a screening for prostate cancer, replacing the older blood test.
Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed a test that looks for three specific markers for prostate cancer, where the blood test would only look for one marker.  They found the new test was more accurate than the blood test in predicting prostate cancer and predicting aggressive prostate cancer.
“This combination test is not designed to say definitively at diagnosis whether a man has aggressive prostate cancer, but it can provide a more accurate estimate of the likelihood of having cancer and the likelihood of that cancer being aggressive,” researcher Scott Tomlins, MD, was quoted as saying.
