Nine Percent of Young People Report Committing Act of Sexual Violence

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – One in 10 people under the age of 21 reported having committed an act of sexual violence in their lifetime, and these people report greater exposure to violent pornography.
According to an analysis of 1,058 people between the ages of 14 and 21, nine percent of respondents reported committing some sort of sexual violence, three percent reported attempted rape, and two percent reported a completed rape. The first act of sexual violence occurred at age 16 most commonly, and half of those who committed the acts blamed the victims for what happened. Males were overwhelmingly more likely to commit an act of sexual violence than females. The perpetrators also tended to have a greater exposure to media showing sexual violence or coercion.
