Walking an Hour a Day Could Cut Breast Cancer Risk

(Ivanhoe Newswire) –New research shows that postmenopausal women who were active or walked for at least seven hours a week had a reduced risk for breast cancer.
Researchers at the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia, found that women who spent at least one hour every day doing vigorous physical activity had a 25 percent lower risk for breast cancer, and those who walked for at least seven hours a week had a 14 percent lower risk for breast cancer.
“Current guidelines recommend that adults should strive to get at least 2.5 hours per week of moderate-intensity activity, or 75 minutes per week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity for overall health. Higher levels of activity may provide greater benefit for breast cancer prevention,” Alpa Patel, Ph.D., senior epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society (ACS) in Atlanta, Ga., was quoted as saying.
