Argonne National Laboratory science highlightsA new multilayer-based grating for hard x-ray grating interferometry
A new kind of x-ray multilayer grating that could open a pathway for high-sensitivity x-ray imaging of large samples has been developed by researchers at the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Energy Office's (DOE's) Argonne National Laboratory, and Penn State University. The project was led by Dr. Han Wen in NHLBI's Division of Intramural Research.

NIH-supported researchers have found that women younger than 50 with a recent heart attack are more likely to experience restricted blood flow to the heart (myocardial ischemia) in response to psychological stress.

The NHLBI-supported ISCHEMIA-CKD (International Study of Comparative Health Effectiveness with Medical and Invasive Approaches – Chronic Kidney Disease) trial is a multicenter randomized controlled trial that will study approximately 1,000 patients with CKD, which causes impaired kidney function that may ultimately result in kidney failure and dialysis, and at least moderate ischemia (reduced blood flow to the heart caused by narrowed heart arteries).
