Circulation. November 2013
  • "The guideline recognizes that adults with primary, severe elevations of LDL–C (≥190 mg/dL) have a high lifetime risk for heart related events. This is due to their lifetime exposure to markedly elevated LDL–C levels arising from genetic causes."
  • "Because the hypercholesterolemia in these high-risk individuals is often genetically determined (e.g. familial hypercholesterolemia), family screening is especially important in this group to identify additional family members who would benefit from assessment and early treatment."
