Total Smoking Bans Get Smokers to Quit
(Ivanhoe Newswire) – Total smoking bans, in both the home and city-wide bans, increase the odds that smokers will cut back on tobacco consumption or stop altogether.
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego surveyed a representative sample of 1,718 smokers in California and found home bans on smoking were significantly associated with successful quitting or reduced smoking. They also found those who live in cities which have smoking bans in public places were more likely to try to quit and succeed than those who live in cities where no bans existed. Having a home ban and a city-wide ban on smoking seemed to even more effective in getting smokers to quit or reduce consumption.
