CDC’s Center for Global Health announces the formation of the Division of Global Health Protection and the selection of Dr. Jordan Tappero as the first permanent director

In December 2013, CDC announced that the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) had officially become part of the Center for Global Health. With the announcement, Captain (USPHS) Jordan W. Tappero, MD, MPH was selected as Division Director. 
The Division’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of Americans and other people around the world. DGHP looks to accomplish its mission by promoting the advancement of strong public health systems and ensuring global health security.
Dr. Tappero, who has worked has worked in CDC’s Global Health activities for numerous years, will provide leadership and overall strategic direction for the Division’s activities. From Dr. Tappero: “While we have made significant strides in improving public health globally, I am confident that in the months and years ahead, working together we can make even greater improvements in helping countries build core capacities to prevent disease, disability and death from emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, natural and man-made disasters and non-communicable diseases.”
