Finally, we have a 3 part series this week called “High Times” and it is not surprisingly about medical marijuana.
- The dangers of synthetic marijuana are discussed by Dr Christopher Colwell at the Denver Health Medical Center and by Tista Ghosh at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Synthetic marijuana caused more than 11,000 emergency room visits in 2010 so this is not a small problem.
- The Dangers of real cannabis poisonings by children is the topic of the second part. Read the article to see what Dr Michael Kosnett of University of Colorado School of Medicine and Dr George Wang at Children’s Hospital Colorado have to say to adults about protecting their children if they do have marijuana in the home. Although the federal government has not legalized it anywhere, 21 states plus the District of Columbia have passed laws allowing medical marijuana. It just got on the ballot in Florida so we will be hearing a lot more about it in the coming months.
- The third part of our series addresses the question: Is marijuana really medicine? There is no conclusion but there are a lot of opinions and I personally am swayed by the patients who swear it helped their seizures or pain or nausea. But you can read what Dr Eduardo Locatelli at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale and Dr Shirley Zelikovshy at Bethesda Health City in Boynton Beach, Fl have to say as well as Dr David Gross, consultant for the Drug Free America Foundation and form your own opinion.
