NIH-Funded Study Suggests Camels Have Carried MERS Virus Since at Least 1992
National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientists and their colleagues have found evidence that dromedary camels in Saudi Arabia have carried the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) since at least 1992. Their study also suggests that MERS-CoV may be jumping directly from camels to people, rather than being spread by bats, as some have speculated.
