Health Communication Science Digest -- February 2014

Dear colleagues,
The February issue of Health Communication Science Digest (HCSD or Digest) is now available athttp://www.cdc.gov/healthcommunication/ScienceDigest/index.html
This month we congratulate our CDC colleagues Thomas Frieden (Director, CDC) and Alicia Shugart (DHQP/NCEZID)! In his work, which appears in the American Journal of Public Health, Dr. Frieden identifies and discusses communication as one of “Six components necessary for effective public health program implementation.” Shugart coauthored, with Lapinski and others, the paper “Social influence in child care centers: A test of the theory of normative social behavior” in Health Communication.
Also in the Digest this month: Several papers examine outcomes resulting from public health communication messaging (Carpenter et al.; Dunlop et al.; King et al.; Nagler; Park et al.; Ray et al.; Stockwell et al.). Health message design considerations are discussed by several (Beck et al.; Berry & Shields; Durant et al.; Kostygina et al.; Shu & Carlson). Public health communication research involving risk perceptions (Bigman; Jin et al.; Miller; Rhodes et al.) and information seeking, use, and trust (Greaney et al.; Hovick; Nan et al.) is reported. And, papers examining health message audiences (George et al.; Schulze et al.) and health literacy (Mõttus et al.) are also included.
Please remember that you can access all issues of the “Health Communication Science Digest” series online via the searchable Health Communication Science Digest Archive.
We hope that you find the Health Communication Science Digest useful and invite you to provide us with feedback for improvement. Please send us articles that you would like to share with others—articles you or your colleagues have published or found useful.
Please send your comments and questions to HCSD@cdc.gov.
