Births: Preliminary Data for 2013
The 2013 preliminary number of births for the United States was 3,957,577, slightly more births (4,736) than in 2012. U.S. data on births are shown by age, live-birth order, race, and Hispanic origin of mother. Data on marital status, cesarean delivery, preterm births, and low birthweight are also presented.
Updated Fact Sheet: HIV Infection Among Asians in the United States and Dependent Areas
Of the estimated 982 adult and adolescent Asians diagnosed with HIV infection in 2011, 84% (821) were men and 16% (153) were women.
Updated Fact Sheet: HIV Among Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders in the United States
In 2011, less than 1% (81) of 50,199 estimated HIV diagnoses were among NHOPI; 70 diagnoses were in men, and 10* were in women.
Preexposure Prophylaxis for the Prevention of HIV Infection in the United States — 2014: A Clinical Practice Guideline
These guidelines provide comprehensive information for the use of daily oral antiretroviral preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV infection in adults. The document includes sections on published trials of antiretroviral preexposure prophylaxis among heterosexual men and women, women who become pregnant or breastfeed while taking PrEP medication, risk behavior assessment for heterosexually active men and women, and recommended indications for PrEP use by heterosexually active men and women. 
Preexposure Prophylaxis for the Prevention of HIV Infection in the United States — 2014: Clinical Providers’ Supplement
This supplement to the PHS PrEP Clinical Practice Guidelines is intended to provide additional information that may be useful to clinicians providing PrEP. The document includes a section on PrEP during conception, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
Recommendations Regarding Skin Cancer Prevention from the Community Preventive Services Task Force - Preventing Skin Cancer: Interventions in Outdoor Recreational and Tourism Settings
The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends interventions in outdoor recreational and tourism settings that include skin cancer prevention messages or educational activities for visitors, and may also provide free sunscreen of SPF 15 or greater.
Million Hearts: Prevalence of Leading Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors — United States, 2005–2012
Although trends in some measures are encouraging, further reductions of CVD risk factors will be needed to meet Million Hearts goals by 2017. In 2009–2010, prevalence of recommended aspirin use was greater among men (58.5%) than women (48.0%). The prevalence of blood pressure control in 2011–2012 was greater among women (54.6%) than men (48.9%). Mean daily sodium intake was greater among men (4,225 mg) than among women (2,976 mg). In 2011–2012, current tobacco product smoking was greater among men (30.3%) than women (20.4%).

Stroke Awareness
Every year, more than 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke. Although stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability, a quick response when the stroke occurs can help minimize brain damage and shorten the recovery period.
Primary and Secondary Syphilis — United States, 2005–2013
Among women, the reported primary and secondary syphilis rate increased from 0.9 to 1.5 per 100,000 population per year during 2005–2008 and decreased to 0.9 in 2013. This trend occurred among women in all age groups. Rates among white and Hispanic women remained stable; the trend among all women mostly reflected changes in rates among black women (from 4.2 to 7.9 during 2005–2009, decreasing to 4.0 in 2013).
Trichomoniasis: A Neglected Parasitic Infection in the United States
Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD); the parasite is passed from an infected person to an uninfected person during sex. Women and men with trichomoniasis may notice redness, soreness, or itching of the genitals, burning with urination, or discharge. Without treatment, infection can last for months or even years.
First Births to Older Women Continue to Rise
This report explores trends in first births to women aged 35–39 and 40–44 years from 1970 to 2012, and by race and Hispanic origin from 1990 to 2012 (the most recent year for which comparable data are available). Trends in first births for older women by state are examined for the recent period, 2000 to 2012.
PrEP for HIV Prevention
If you think you are at risk of getting HIV, ask your health care provider if PrEP is right for you. Along with other prevention methods like condoms, PrEP can offer good protection against HIV if taken every day.

CFS is a debilitating and complex disorder characterized by profound fatigue that is not improved by bed rest and that may be worsened by physical or mental activity. In some cases, CFS can persist for years.
Know:BRCA
Know:BRCA assesses a young woman’s risk of having a BRCA gene mutation based on her family cancer history. She can then share her results with her medical provider. With this essential information, young women and providers can work together to decide next steps, possibly including genetic counseling and testing, screening, and risk reduction.
Revised Surveillance Case Definition for HIV Infection — United States, 2014
CDC and CSTE have revised and combined the surveillance case definitions for HIV infection into a single case definition for persons of all ages. The revisions were made to address multiple issues, the most important of which was the need to adapt to recent changes in diagnostic criteria.

The purpose of the proposed program is to increase the availability of health information and support services for YBCS and their families by supporting organizations and entities that serve the target population. Application Deadline: July 1, 2014.
Preventing Injuries and Violence by Informing State Strategies [CDC-RFA-CE14-1403]
The purpose of this project is to reduce injuries and violence and the related increase risk of disability and chronic conditions by increasing knowledge of injury and violence prevention options. Application Deadline: June 18, 2014.
PPHF 2014 Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) financed in part by Prevention and Public Health Funding [CDC-RFA-DP14-1419PPHF14]
This FOA will also support effective implementation of existing policy, systems, and environmental
improvements and offers the opportunity for communities to take comprehensive action to address risk factors contributing to the most common and debilitating chronic conditions. Application Deadline: July 22, 2014.

Enhancing Cancer Genomic Best Practices through Education, Surveillance, and Policy [CDC-RFA-DP14-1407]
This FOA will allow for the development or expansion of state-based programs to promote applications of evidence-based breast and ovarian cancer genomics best practices through education, surveillance, and policy/systems change. Activities will focus on Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer, but may also include Lynch Syndrome. Application Deadline: June 17, 2014
State-Based Perinatal Quality Collaboratives [CDC-RFA-DP14-1404]
The purpose of this program is to enhance state-based PQCs’ ability to collect timely, high quality data in order to provide feedback to member facilities to improve perinatal care. The goal is to provide support for current efforts and to include higher proportions of participating hospitals in their states, as well as expand their current projects to address a broader range of neonatal and maternal health issues. Application Deadline: June 23, 2014.
A Comprehensive Approach to Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country (CDC-RFA-DP14-1421PPHF14]
The primary purpose of this funding is to establish or strengthen and broaden the reach and impact of effective chronic disease prevention programs that improve the health of tribal members and communities. These changes will aim to reduce commercial tobacco use and exposure, improve nutrition and physical activity, increase support for breastfeeding, increase health literacy, and strengthen team-based care and community-clinical links. Application Deadline: July 22, 2014.
Economic Modeling for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Tuberculosis and School Health [CDC-RFA-PS14-1415]
The activities described in this FOA will provide models and analytic results that will enable CDC to better assess policy options, address questions of resource allocation, estimate impact, and characterize the cost-effectiveness of interventions used or potentially used in public health. Application Deadline: July 17, 2014.  
Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention Program and Diabetes Prevention State and Local Public Health Actions to Prevent Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease and Stroke financed solely by Prevention and Public Health Funds [CDC-RFA-DP14-1422PPHF14]
The purpose of the funding is to support implementation of population-wide and priority population approaches to prevent obesity, diabetes, and heart disease and stroke and reduce health disparities in these areas among adults. Application Deadline: July 22, 2014
