Current Highlight from August 15, 2014

Women's Health Program
The 2014 NCTR/Office of Women’s Health (OWH) Women’s Health Research Day, “Moving into the Future with New Strategies to Advance Women’s Health,” was held August 12-13, 2014. Introductory remarks on the future roadmap and research goals of FDA’s OWH were presented by Drs. Helen Barr and Emmanuel Fadiran. Plenary lectures on 1) cardiac disease modelling and drug discovery and 2) potential triggers and targets for systemic lupus were presented by Joseph Wu of Stanford University School of Medicine and Edward Treadwell of Brody School of Medicine-East Carolina University, respectively.
NCTR OWH awardees presented their recent results on:
  • the clinical significance of IL-18, TNFSF 13B, and FoxP3 as potential therapeutic targets for lupus
  • studies on the interaction of microbiota and nanoparticles
  • oncomutation profiling in breast cancer
  • modelling the interaction of xenobiotic metabolism in the pregnant woman
  • bioimaging of neuronal reward circuits by nicotine and tobacco smoke.
