Supporting Nursing Moms at Work

Dept. of Health & Human Services
Women with children are the fastest-growing group in the work force today, and balancing work and family is an important priority. Today, over 75 percent of women in the United States begin breastfeeding to nurse their children. While many businesses want to provide time and space for nursing moms, it’s not always easy for them to figure out how. Now that many employers are required by law to provide reasonable accommodations for employees who breastfeed, it’s even more important to help companies think creatively about solutions.
With that in mind, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health (OWH) launched Supporting Nursing Moms at Work: Employer Solutions. This online resource provides businesses with cost-effective tips and solutions for any industry setting.
If you are pregnant, now is a great time to talk to your employer about your breastfeeding goals when you return to work. Share this online resource, and let them know that you’d like to work together to make a plan that benefits you both.
