CDC - Global Health

This image depicts a visit on July 31, 2014, which took place at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), when more than 20 journalists from Africa paid a visit to CDC headquarters in order to learn more about the organization’s collaborations with African nations that would advance the practice public health delivery in areas of high priority. In this particular view, the journalists were given the opportunity to meet with Dr. Ray Arthur, Director of the Global Disease Detection Operations Center, a Division of Global Health Protection, in the Center for Global Health (wearing a light blue shirt).
During their visit, panel discussions were held with CDC subject matter experts highlighting CDC’s activities involving its work with African partners to address global health security, and build capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases including Ebola and MERS, as well as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and vaccine preventable diseases. The journalists were also able to tour CDC’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and ask questions about how CDC conducts surveillance, and responds to disease outbreaks and other health threats.
