Model Aquatic Health Code 1st Edition: Updates, Materials, & CMAHC Meeting

Thank you for your interest in the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC), a collaborative effort of public health, academia, and industry working to protect individuals, families, and communities from preventable illness and injury through evidence-based guidance. MAHC 1^st Edition launched in August

Last month, CDC released the nation’s first voluntary guidelines based on science and best practices for improving health and safety at swimming pools and other aquatic venues: The Model Aquatic Health Code 1^st Edition. States and localities can use the MAHC to create or update existing pool codes to reduce risk for outbreaks, drowning, and pool-chemical injuries.

Web updates and materials

Following the launch of the MAHC 1^st Edition, the MAHC website was further expanded to include documents and tools for stakeholders, including:

MAHC 1^st Edition split up by section number to make finding, downloading, and printing the content you are interested in easier

“Track Changes” MAHC “Knitted” Version Code and Annex showing what changes were made in response to the second round of public comments that resulted in the MAHC 1^st Edition

Additional tools and forms for public health officials and aquatics sector personnel including investigations forms, applications, reporting forms, and MAHC-specific checklists

Two options are now open for participating in the CMAHC organizational meeting on October 8

The Conference for the Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC) Organizational Meeting, held Wednesday, October 8 from 8am-2pm PST in Portland, Oregon, will be a unique opportunity for public health, aquatics, and other stakeholders to get in on the ground floor of deciding how this vital national entity will be organized and operated so that it can collect national input on updating the MAHC for relay back to CDC. The meeting will also be seeking volunteers to fill vital roles in the proposed MAHC update submission review and discussion process, and start planning for the first official CMAHC biennial meeting to be held in October 2015.
