A new cardiac pump has been developed and used in Japan and now has been implanted in a patient in the US for the very first time. Dr Salpy Pamboukian, MD, Mechanical Circulatory Support Device Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham used the new ventricular assistant device (VAD) which is called Evaheart to constantly push blood into circulation. The Evaheart is a bridge to help an ailing heart while waiting for a new one. So far more than 130 Japanese have used it for two years on average while waiting for a new heart.
