Global Rates of Sexual Violence Against Children are High
Few Victims Receive Supportive Services

Global sexual violence against children is a serious problem that can have lasting effects on victims and their family, friends, and communities.

Data released today from the global Violence Against Children Surveys (VACS) suggest that at least 25% of females and 10% of males have experienced childhood sexual violence, with less than 10% of those victims receiving the supportive care that they need.

Violence is preventable. Country specific prevention and response programs are a necessary next step following the release of VACS data. The CDC has developed a comprehensive technical package called THRIVES which includes evidence-based programs and policies that countries can use to prevent and respond to violence against children.
