KSOC-TV Explores Strategies for Preventing Death by Suicide
June 9, 2015 | 2 p.m. Eastern Time
Suicide is a complex problem for which there is no single cause or reason. It is the second leading cause of death for youth and young adults between the ages of 10 and 24. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 619 youth between the ages 10 and 15 lost their lives to suicide in 2013. Among youth and young adults between the ages of 16 and 24, more than 4,600 lives were lost to suicide that year.
The next live, interactive KSOC-TV webisode, "Preventing Death by Suicide: Strategies To Help Children, Youth, and Families," presents a suicide intervention-informed approach to address suicide prevention and facilitate healing.
SAMHSA's Gary Blau, along with SAMHSA's Dr. Richard McKeon, and Active Minds' Ashli Haggard and Dr. Julie Goldstein Grumet, will explore the principles of suicide prevention that are critical to recovery.
