Heart failure is a common condition among people 65+, and it’s the number one reason older people are hospitalized.   Its symptoms are shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, and swelling in the ankles, feet and legs. Heart failure develops over time as the pumping action of the heart gets weaker, but it’s not a normal part of aging.
The information on Heart Failure was developed for NIHSeniorHealth by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at NIH.
