Be alert for signs of elder abuse

e-Update from the National Institute on Aging at N I H

Did you know that neglect, abandonment, and healthcare fraud are all types of abuse?

NIA’s Elder Abuse AgePage offers information and tips. For example:

  • Be attentive. Trouble sleeping, agitation, withdrawal, and unexplained bruises or burns may be signs of abuse.
  • Get details. If you suspect abuse or mistreatment, talk with the older person and try to learn what’s going on.
  • Find help. Contact a social service agency—or call 911 or local police right away if an older person is in urgent danger.

Read online or order free copies of the Elder Abuse AgePage.
