“As we look back at this year’s accomplishments, FP2020 is also looking to the future, guided by the resolve to empower women and girls to make healthy reproductive choices.”
—Dr. Ariel Pablos-Méndez, Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) 2014–2015 progress report
Today, an unprecedented number of women and girls are using modern methods of contraception: 290.6 million in the world’s poorest countries. Despite this progress, there are still millions of women who want to avoid or delay a pregnancy but cannot access the information and tools to do so. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is a critical supporter of FP2020, a global partnership aimed at providing access to voluntary family planning information, contraceptives and services to 120 million more women and girls in the world’s poorest countries by 2020.
The FP2020 third annual progress report, FP2020 Commitment to Action 2014–2015, details progress and achievements made since the landmark 2012 London Summit on Family Planning. In just 3 years, 24.4 million more women and girls have begun to use modern methods of contraception. Read the report to learn how family planning continues to improve the lives of women and girls across the world, as well as the action that still needs to be taken to further accelerate progress.
