Medical Breakthroughs: First to Know

Letter from Ivanhoe's President

Beware of Scams!

Last week a friend’s daughter received a phone call that her father had been kidnapped and would be killed if she didn’t wire them $4000 right away. She was not able to reach her father immediately and went through several hours of agony but she was quick thinking enough to record the message and to capture the phone number for the police. The call came from the Orlando area which is why it scared her so much because her father lives in Orlando. Another scam we’ve heard about is when the front desk at a hotel you check into calls to “confirm your credit card number” but it isn’t really the front desk asking for it…never give it out over the phone, walk down to the front desk and let them see it. I am telling you this but it is really me who might get scammed because I just don’t think about scams first.
     Watch our Medical Headline Videos:
  •      Dr Robert Lebovics and Dr Faiz Bhora at Mount Sinai St Luke’s Hospital in New York are developing new windpipes for damaged trachea and 3D printed tracheas could be medicine’s next big thing.
  •      Dr Tripp Buckley, at Baylor Scott & White Healthcare in Dallas, says “esophageal cancer has increased 600 percent since the introduction of antacid type drugs” which is a fact I didn’t know. He is using a simple magnetic titanium bracelet that is placed on the low end of the esophagus…some are calling it the miracle cure.
  •      Dr Jay Mabrey and Dr Ryan Hanson at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas are using “enhanced recovery” to enable same day joint replacement. It is a new approach to anesthesia that involves a spinal block instead of general anesthesia.
Our first special report is about youth sports and the continuing efforts to make them safer. The second one is about the value of tart cherry juice for pain relief and the third is about the dangers of playful pets.

“Goldfish get big enough only for the bowl you put them in. Bonsai trees twist in miniature. I would have given anything to keep her little. They outgrow us so much faster than we outgrow them.”
