The NIDDK will kick off phase two of a national radio media tour this month focused on maintaining healthy New Year’s resolutions. Phase one highlighted ways to eat healthy and stay active during the holiday season through e-blasts,social mediablog postswebsites, matte articles, and radio interviews featuring NIDDK Director Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers.

It’s a Wrap: NIDDK Completes Month-long Effort to Promote Diabetes Education and Support
The NIDDK wrapped up a busy November promoting diabetes education and support throughout National Diabetes Month. NIDDK Director Dr. Griffin Rodgers kicked off the month-long national observance in an NIH statementhighlighting the benefits of ongoing education and support for people with diabetes.
NKDEP Partner Promotes African-American Kidney Health
The Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. supports the NIDDK’s efforts to educate African Americans about kidney disease through the Kidney Sundays initiative during National Kidney Month. With chapters around the country, the nursing sorority’s local, registered nurses conduct kidney disease education and blood pressure screenings in African American faith communities.
Research Update
Teens Achieve Weight Loss, Health Benefits with Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric surgery resulted in major weight loss and improvements in overall health and quality of life three years after the surgeries were performed in a group of teens with severe obesity, according to the latest findings of the Teen Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery, or Teen-LABS. The study results appeared in the November 6 issue ofThe New England Journal of Medicine.
