Medical Breakthroughs: First to Know

Letter from Ivanhoe's President

It’s That Time of Year: Back to Work/Back to School!

Ivanhoe’s office cat, Tiger Lily, just had two teeth pulled and it cost $900…a good reminder that pets are expensive to have around. I love mine but I’m glad I don’t have more!
     Watch our Medical Headline Videos:
  •      People with advanced Parkinson’s have trouble regulating their medications. The FDA recently approved DUOPA and Dr Daniel Truong, MD, Neurologist at Orange Coast Memorial Center in Fountain Valley, California tells us more about it.
  •      Dr Dung Le, MD, Oncologist at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center in Baltimore tells us about an immunotherapy treatment for patients who have tried and failed other regimens.
  •      Gene Fridman, PhD, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University has come up with a Mouthlab device to gather your vitals quickly. Dr David Feller-Kopman, MD, Otolarygologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital says it is going to improve the care being delivered. He calls it a “check-engine for humans.”
The costly care of hep C patients is brought home to us in our first special report. One patient got the treatment approved by his insurance company and the other one did not. They are both being treated by Dr Claudio Tuda, MD, Infectious Disease Specialist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach.
Nutritionist Misti Neal, MS, RD, Director of Food and Nutrition at Soutwest General Hospital in San Antonio has lots of advice for parents about avoiding fast foods or at least choosing wisely if you do end up at a drive-through.

Finally, Alison Massey, RD, CDE, Director of Diabetes Education at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore has five changes every pre-diabetic should make. Apparently, there are 86 million Americans who have pre-diabetes!
And there's more where that came from...
