Happy New Year
Starting every year is exciting to me because I always wonder what will be new this year. I have come up with 5 things I want to make a part of my life…now we'll see how successful I am. One is so mundane that I will tell you about it: make my closet look like my friend, Preston's. Hers made such an impression on me that I actually started this week-end and pulled out 15 outfits I haven't worn in at least 5 years to give away. One down (sort of), 4 to go…and 12 months to do them!

- Ian Carroll and Stephanie Zerwas, both PhDs at UNC Chapel Hill, have found that gut bacteria, known as microbiota, plays a role in eating disorders. The next step is to find out if altering it will be a better treatment for people with eating disorders.
- A father, Topher Wurts, set out to help other parents raise a child with autism by creating a free app called "Autism Village" and it allows anyone to review a business to see if it is autism friendly. He raised $75,000 in 42 days by crowdfunding!
- Dr David Pegues, MD, Infectious Disease Specialist at PENN Medicine, tells us how a robot is cutting the rate of Hep C and other infections caught in hospitals by 25 percent at the University of Pennsylvania hospital. The ultra-violet lights lock onto the DNA of organisms and wipe them out in 16 minutes of cleaning each room.
You are never too old for many things but this week we show youadults who are getting braces. We interviewed Dr Tate H. Jackson, DDS, at UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. We also talked to Deborah Carr, PhD at Rutgers University about how to get rid of stress. I like her point about paying it forward!
