The silence around stillbirth is unspeakable

The Lancet
The silence around stillbirth is unspeakable

Dear Prof Cerasale,

1.2 million babies die during childbirth every year, worldwide. The research released today shows that these deaths are preventable. The Lancet and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine take the lead in breaking the silence around stillbirth.

Science alone cannot save those 1.2 million lives. Our series on stillbirth clearly shows the need for increased awareness and political determination to reduce the number of lives lost to zero.

In addition to this series, The Lancet is launching a campaign that will address the issue of stillbirth. The goal of that campaign is to create the context for debate, and to influence decision makers worldwide. It’s about increasing the social impact of science and research.

Please follow the campaign site and look out for messages on Facebook and Twitter or use the hashtag #unspeakable.
