Consumer Update: What You Should Know about Colorectal Cancer
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and FDA recognizes how important this health issue is for adults in the United States. The disease is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among cancers that affect both men and women. Colorectal cancer has a disproportionate impact on certain underserved and minority populations (African Americans, Hispanics, and American Indians and Alaska Natives) due to limited access to screening and early treatment. The differences in access to screening and treatment have been found to account for more than half of the racial disparity in colorectal cancer mortality rates.
While screening rates have increased in the U.S. over the years, many people are still not getting tested. Read our Consumer Update for more information about the various screening options that are available.
