Medical Breakthroughs: First to Know

Talented dogs and artists in Winter Park!

If you weren’t in Winter Park, Florida this past week-end, you missed a lot! Dogs from all over the country doing agility and artists displaying theircreations on Park Avenue…it’s my favorite time of year!
     Watch our Medical Headline Videos:
  •      Dr Robert Andtbacka, MD, surgical oncologist at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City tells us about a new weapon that comes from a genetically-altered herpes virus and is the first cancer-killing viral therapy ever approved in the US. It is called the T-vec treatment.
  •      Dr George Suarez, MD, a urologist in Miami, is using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to remove prostate cancerwhile preserving a man’s quality of life. Several of my friends went to Mexico or the Caribbean for this before it was recently approved in the US and were very happy with the results.
  •      Dr Stefanie Seitz, assistant professor of Comprehensive Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio is now using newly-approved dental implants that not only look better but work better: “Ceramic Dental Implants.”
Lee-Ann Jaykus, PhD, Professor of Food Sciences & Microbiology at North Carolina State University is studying vomit. She and her students actually built a vomiting device to test how virus is released into the airand how long it stays around.
If you want to get rid of facial fat, read the full-length interview with Dr Craig Vander Kolk, MD at Johns Hopkins.

Finally, Albert Pang, OD, Optometrist at Trinity Eye Care in Plano, Texas has a non-invasive solution to restore eyesight without surgery. The larger schleral lenses that he is using to correct Lasik damage also help with dry eye syndrome he says.
And there's more where that came from...

“When I’m sometimes asked when will there be enough women on the Supreme Court? And I say ‘When there are nine.’ People are shocked. But there’s been nine men, and nobody’s ever raised a question about that.”
-- Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
