Medical Breakthroughs: First to Know

Today’s Breakthroughs: Tomorrow’s Cures

When we launched this series in 1989, we called it “Today’s Breakthroughs: Tomorrow’s Cures” and it was the most popular series in the country, reaching 150 tv stations with 50 million viewers. We later changed the name to the shorter “Medical Breakthroughs” and it continues to be our most successful series ever. A viewer in Orlando, Florida just wrote our station client in South Bend, Indiana to thank them for one of our stories on their website since 2014 because he just found it and his daughter is going to the doctor in Houston this month to get the surgery. Everyone at Ivanhoe loves to hear how our stories help people and I hope you do also!

A generation ago most babies with congenital heart disease died before reaching adulthood but today, thanks to all the advances in medical care, there are over 1.2 million America adults who are living and thriving with it. Dr Ari Cedars, MD, Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital in Dallas, is guiding them through life and the different problems they face from people with acquired heart disease.
Dr Carmen Peden, MD, PhD, OB/GYN, at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, says no one ever wants to talk about pelvic floor disorders but they can be fixed.

Finally, Dr Brett Frykberg, MD, orthopedic surgeon at Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute, is using the Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure for young active men with arthritis. It is not without risks but his patients are very sure the benefits outweigh the risks.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone effected by the terrible tragedy that occurred in Orlando yesterday.
