Medical Breakthroughs: First to Know

ADCH Anyone???

My sister, Susan, and her border collie, ABBA, won their Agility DogChampion title this past week in Charleston, SC just as the tropical storm came in. We are all so happy for them! She is Ivanhoe’s webdoctor in her spare time…
     Watch our Medical Headline Videos:
  •      Dr Dale Gerding, MD, and Dr Stuart Johnson, MD, both professors at Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, tell us all about “Fighting C.Diff with C.Diff.”
  •      Dr Andrew J. Kaufman, MD, assistant professor at Icahn School of Medicine and director of the Thoracic Surgery Chest Wall Program at Mount Sinai in New York City, is operating on kids with chest wall deformities (Pectus) and having great success.
  •      Dr William Roberts, MD, cardiac pathologist at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, is leading a one-of-a-kind program at Baylor that allows heart transplant recipients to come back in and hold their own hearts in their hands. That must be quite an experience!
At UC San Diego Health, orthopedic surgeon Anna Kulidjian, MD, MSc, FRCSC, is “Avoiding Amputations with PET Scans” when other doctors had told Emily Sunderland amputation was her only option after 18 surgeries. Dr Kulidjian had other ideas…
Our next special report is “Alzheimer’s and the Biggest Mistakes Caregivers Make” with cognitive neuroscientist Whitney Wharton, PhD at Emory University. And our final report is about a new technique to allow surgeons to see more and cut less: “Endoscopic Ear Surgery.” Dr Brandon Isaacson, MD, Associate Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health says “you can look around corners” and this improves patient outcomes and comfort.
