Video: How an Immune Molecule Initiates Liver Fibrosis

A short video describes results from a mouse study showing how an immune signaling molecule called interleukin-13 initiates liver fibrosis (scarring) from a common parasitic infection. The research—performed by scientists at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—lends support to experimental treatments that aim to block interleukin-13 to slow or prevent liver fibrosis.

The video is part of NIAID’s video SNiP series, in which an NIAID scientist explains a recent research advance and its implications in plain language in approximately 90 seconds.
