2016-17 Intro to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research Course

National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH)

Registration Open - 2016-2017 Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research Course

Registration for the 2016-2017 “Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR)” course is now open. The IPPCR course is designed to educate participants on the key principles of how to effectively conduct clinical research. The course will run from September 2016 through April 2017.

NEW THIS YEAR: The 2016-2017 course has been modified and will be conducted entirely online to enhance access to the course content. All lectures for the 2016-2017 course were previously recorded in the 2015-2016 academic year, and the entire course syllabus, with all of the videos, and handouts, will be posted to the course website at the start of course. Since the majority of participants are working professionals, we want to ensure 24/7 access to all course content and allow participants the flexibility to learn at their own pace. This will allow all participants to watch the lectures when it is most convenient. If at any time during this academic year there is a need to update lecture content due to new policies, guidelines, etc., the NIH CC Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education will arrange for a new lecture to be recorded and will upload the new lecture and share this important update with registered participants.

The IPPCR course will be of interest to physicians, scientists, medical students, nurses, pharmacists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and all other health professionals engaged in or planning a career in clinical research. It is comprised of 40 lectures on various topics related to clinical research. The length of the individual lectures varies and ranges from 30 to 120 minutes. The entire course takes approximately 50 hours to watch, and participants will need additional time for course readings, discussion board participation, and for the on-line multiple choice final examination. There is no cost to register. There is no academic credit or continuing medical education credit offered for the course. However, a certificate of completion is awarded to registered participants who take the final examination and score at 750 or higher.

As in past years, an online discussion board for faculty and students will be open and operational for participants to ask questions of faculty. Details about access will be sent to registered participants.
