Kids change quickly from birth to five.  It seems like every day, they've grown an inch, learned a new word, or tried something new.  As your child grows from a tiny little newborn to tumbling toddler to a playful preschooler, they change in so many ways. Is your emergency plan keeping up with the changing needs of your child?
Join us for a twitter chat on September 29 from 1:00-2:00 PM EDT to learn about ways that families with young children can stay safe and healthy before, during and after an emergency.
  • Some things never change:  There are some things that your family always needs to have or do to stay healthy when disaster strikes. Having an emergency kit, being ready to care for your children, and starting a conversation with all of the people who care for your child are just a few things that you can do to make sure you are ready to take care of your child when disaster strikes.
  • Some things change really quickly:  There are some things that you obviously need to change as your child grows.  When your child grows from a size 2T to 3T, the clothes in their go-bag need an update.  But some changes aren't so obvious.  The ways that children cope with and process disasters changes as they grow.  As they grow, they ask more questions and they have more options for learning about preparedness.  We'll talk about all of these things and more during the chat.
  • Staying healthy during different kinds of disasters and emergencies: Many of the things that families do to prepare for disasters and emergencies will help out no matter what happens.  But every disaster is a little different.  We'll look at some additional steps you can take to prepare for and recover from flooding and Zika.
