SAMHSA awards up to $54 million for the Assisted Outpatient Treatment Program to help address the need of people who have experienced serious mental illness

Friday, September 9, 2016
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has awarded up to a total of $54 million over the next four years in Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) grants to help address the needs of individuals who have experienced serious mental illness.
These grants will support a four-year pilot program intended to implement and evaluate new AOT programs and identify evidence-based practices to reduce the incidence and duration of psychiatric hospitalization, homelessness, incarcerations, and interactions with the criminal justice system. The grants are also designed to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals who have experienced serious mental illness.
SAMHSA expects to fund as many as 17 grantees with up to $1 million each year for up to four years. The actual award amount may vary, depending on the availability of funds.
