National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is October 22

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – The next National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is coming up on October 22, 2016. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) sponsors the event, which lets people safely and securely dispose of potentially dangerous unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs.
Sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 22 for people to bring excess prescription drugs that otherwise could be abused or contaminate the environment. The DEA website can help you can find a site near you.
At the last National Take Back Day in April 2016, Americans disposed of more than 893,000 pounds of drugs at more than 9,000 sites across the country. The last 11 Take Back Days have collected more than 6.4 million pounds of unused medication.
This year, the Military Health System (MHS) has Drug Take Back locations at military pharmacies, in addition to sites participating in Drug Take Back Day. Any time the pharmacy is open, you can drop off your medications. For more information about MHS Drug Take Back, visit www.tricare.mil/drugtakeback.
Collection sites can accept prescription and over-the-counter “solid dosage” drugs (tablets and capsules) but intravenous solutions, injectable medications and needles are not accepted. Illegal drugs cannot be dropped off at DEA or MHS sponsored collections sites.
